CREATE YOUR BEST LIFE EVER (PART 7) : WHERE ARE YOU STANDING NOW?

Do This Before You Decide What You Want

Before moving forward with your life, you first need to take stock of where you are now. When it comes to figuring out what matters most in your life and how to get there, it helps to have a plan. Doing so requires asking yourself critical questions about who you are, what’s important to you, and what future you want to build for yourself.

The answers from this self-exploration will help point you in the right direction. This doesn’t necessarily need to be a scary process. Figuring out who we are and what we want is an exciting part of growing.

Decide what is important to you.

The first thing you’ll want to do when determining what matters most in your life is to think about your past. By reflecting on your childhood and early life experiences, you’ll better understand the person you were back then and why you made your choices.

Consider reaching out to some of your childhood friends to see if they remember you - and to get a read on who you were as a person back in the day. This can be a constructive way to reflect on who you were and why you did the things you did. Once you have a good sense of the person you were back then, you can also use that as a starting point.

Know your Values

Your values are the things that matter most to you when it comes to how you lead your life. They are also the things that you will ultimately base your decisions on as you move forward in life. This is why it’s important to figure out your values to make decisions that align with your core beliefs and care about what’s truly important to you.

Values can change over time as we learn more about ourselves and the world around us, but they are also always constant. Whatever you decide, your goals will be; your values will still guide you in everything you do.

What are your Core Motivations and Desires?

Why do you care about the things you care about? What are the underlying reasons for your values? Your core motivations and desires will help to guide you and keep you on track toward the life you ultimately want to build for yourself.

Take Stock of your Current Situation

Finally, you want to take stock of your current situation to line up your future with the present. This will help you better understand how far you are from the “end goal” you want for yourself and what you need to do to get there. Remember that this doesn’t need to be a harmful process - it can be very helpful!

It’s important to remember that you don’t have to have your entire life and future figured out. Remember that it’s never too early to start thinking about and planning for your future. Create an “aspirational list” of what you want your life to look like. This can help you get a better sense of what you really want in your life.

 Best wishes
